bread

The kids "helped" me make bread this morning. I don't know what came over me, but I decided to make yeast bread, the kind you mix, knead, let rise, punch, let rise, flip, let rise and bake. Q took off on me about five minutes into it, but The Bee hung around for the duration. Her job was to mix. At one point, after I had turned the dough out and was kneading, she had a wooden spoon and a bowl of flour. Shortly after that, we had a mess ... flour everywhere. She also decided to taste it, and I can't say that I know what a spoonful of flour tastes like, but from her reaction and the coughing I was hearing, it's not very good. Her word: yutty.

And, as a side note, no wonder pioneer women were so darn hardy ... kneading bread is hard work. It really gives the shoulders a bit of a work out ... I can't imagine devoting an entire day to making bread, but I'm sure that once you get a rhythm in place, it's smooth sailing. Most of the time spent making bread is either waiting for the dough to rise or doing dishes.

Our bread turned out beautifully, nice and golden. I've frozen half of it, and the other half we had with dinner.

If I was thinking I would have taken pictures. After all, the camera was right next to the mixing bowl. Maybe next time.

Diabetes Alert Day

March 27 is American Diabetes Association Alert Day. This is the day when the ADA sounds the alert that people may be at risk for diabetes. To find out if you are at risk, take the ADA's Diabetes Risk Test today.

While it isn't a guarantee if you'll get the disease or not, it's something to be aware of.

Take control of your health now, before it controls you later!

I want this doll for my daughter

Yeah, I'm up doing a bunch of crap I shouldn't be ... you know, creating more eye twitches.

I thought this was interesting.

Would you buy this doll for your child?

blepharospasm

Isn't that a fancy word?

In most peoples world, it means involuntary twitching of the eye muscles.

My lower right eyelid has been doing it for almost two weeks now. The experts say that it is caused from one or more of the following things:

1. Caffeine
2. Lack of sleep
3. Dehydration
4. Eye stress

Let's see ... I'm a Mama with two small kids, a husband, a part time job, a house and am attempting to have a social life. I have also committed to a local support group.

I'm thinking that my eye is twitching for any number of reasons - I don't get enough sleep (if they'd stop coming in to bed with us at 3 am and talking, I'm sure I'd get more), so I drink way too much coffee to compensate for it. And then, since I'm basically only drinking coffee during the day and nothing else, I'm probably dehydrated. I also know that it has to STOP. It's driving me friggin insane. I can feel it when I'm talking to people and I know I'm making faces at them too. In fact, it's twitching right now. AARGH!

So, if you see a strung out, suburban mom with the caffeine shakes and a twitchy eye, it'll probably be me. In my dented car. With the fighting kids.
